Raymond Szypulski Obituary

Raymond Dennis Szypulski “Shado”, one of Steubenville’s greatest, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, December 7, 2024. Born on November 3, 1949, Ray lived a life devoted to Jesus and taking care of others. He will be remembered for his extreme generosity and servanthood, his charming smile and his unintentional humor.

Shado is preceded in death by his loving mother and father, Alice and Edmund Szypulski, his charismatic elder brother, Ed Szypulski and his brother, John Szypulski.

He is survived by his wife Marian Herrick Taliani Szypulski, four children, Melissa Dobbs, Helena (Rich) Muckle, Raymond (Maya Boyd) Szypulski, and Nicholette (Brad) Graham. His grandchildren, Zoe, Raegan, Myla, Benton, Siler and Josiah. His incredible siblings, Martina (John) DiBacco, Theresha Szypulski (wife of the late Ed), Nancy Szypulski-Lewis, Alicia (Joe) Crisante, Vanessa Szypulski-Drzayich, Denise (Pat) Bennett, Cheryl Szypulski-Snyder, Joseph (Kathy) Szypulski, and Munya (Rick) Andresen. The mother of his four children, Sherrie Rogers.

Raymond was the happiest man alive and had a true heart of gold. He would give until he had nothing left to give and then go get more so he could continue to pour out. All he ever wanted in life was to go be home with Jesus, and that’s where he finally is- healed and whole and with Jesus.

Ray was very well-known in the community for the time he spent volunteering in many areas such as church youth groups, the Urban Mission, Celebrate Recovery and Sycamore Youth Center. He loved to help out the teenagers specifically. Many of them called him Daddy Ray or Papa Ray. He spent many years of his life coaching basketball and mentoring the players. Ray had many loves in his life, especially Friendship Park, winning every game of corn hole, golfing, eating fresh Lou’s bread, his Polish heritage and worshiping Jesus. He was renowned for his basketball legacy at Steubenville Catholic Central High School. He was also an alumnus of Weirton Steel Corporation.

In remembrance of Ray, a tribute fund titled "Raymond’s Tribute Fund" has been created. Instead of flowers, those wishing to carry on Ray’s legacy of extravagant generosity may contribute to this fund at the following web address: https://everloved.com/life-of/raymond-szypulski/donate/ Your donations will serve as a testament to Ray's life, reflecting their impact on those who were privileged to have known him.

A viewing and Celebration of Life Service for Raymond will be held at Mosti Funeral Home, Sunset Chapel, 4435 Sunset Blvd, Steubenville. The viewing will be held on Friday, December 13 from 1:00 pm until the time of services at 4:00 pm.

The family would also like to express their gratitude for Weirton Geriatric Center and Valley Hospice for the extra special care they provided Ray.
