Rita Abatangelo Obituary

Rita Abatangelo It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Rita Abatangelo, a dedicated and loving mother and grandmother, a remarkable woman who touched the lives of everyone she met. Rita’s courageous battle with COPD and Heart Disease came to an end on November 13, 2023. She was 67 years old. Rita's nurturing spirit, unwavering support, and boundless love will forever live on in the hearts of her children. Rita was known for her warm and caring personality. She had a generous heart, always ready to lend a helping hand to those in need. Her kindness and compassion touched the lives of many, and she will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. She also loved music, baking, and cooking. Cooking delicious food for her loved ones was her love language, and she leaves behind countless memories of delicious Sunday dinners of a never-ending table filled with food, love, and laughter. Rita's memory will be forever cherished by her family and friends. Her legacy as a mother and friend will endure, and her spirit will continue to inspire us all. In our hearts, she lives on, and we will forever honor the legacy of a remarkable woman who made a lasting impact on the many lives she touched.

In 1976, she met and married Modesto Mezzina, and the two were inseparable from that point on. Rita and Modesto were married for 20 years and had two daughters. They later separated but have always loved one another through the decades. Rita was a fiercely dedicated mom to both of her girls, raising all of them to go on to accomplish great things. Family came first and was above all else to Rita, a value she instilled in all those around her. The hole left by her absence is impossible to fill.

Rita was predeceased by her parents, Vincenzo and Maria Abatangelo, her sisters, Lina DeCesare and Maria Abatangelo, and niece, Maria Vicari. She is survived by her daughters Maria (Christopher) Briggs and Vincenza Mezzina, granddaughter Valentina Jayde Mezzina, Rita’s two brothers Cosimo (Nunzia) and Mateo (Grace) Abatangelo, and four sisters Chiara (Gino) Duracino, Michela (Guglielmo) Murolo, Antonia (Rafaele) Morrelli, and Giovanna (Domenico) Gadaleta, and many nieces and nephews.
