Rita E. Sylvester

Rita E. Sylvester, 85, of Steubenville died Sunday, January 16, 2022 at UPMC Passavant Hospital. She was born March 16, 1936 in Steubenville. She is the daughter of the late Peter and Anna Mary (Palmer) Sylvester. Also preceding her are relatives Sandra and Teresa Albrecht. 

Rita graduated from Steubenville Catholic Central High School and then from St. Mary of the Springs College with a degree in elementary education. She also earned a masters degree in reading from West Virginia University and a masters degree in education administration from the University of Dayton. 

Rita taught in Steubenville City Schools and in the Catholic Schools in the Steubenville Diocese. She was a life member of both the Jefferson County Retired Teachers Association and the Ohio Retired Teachers Association. Other memberships include Holy Family St. Francis Society and it’s Catholic Women’s Club, Steubenville Women’s bowling Association, Gadabouts and the Primtime Senior Center. She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church where she felt honored and privileged to play organ for Mass.

Surviving is Thomas Albrecht of Portsmouth, OH. 

Friends are invited to a funeral liturgy with Mass that will be celebrated Thursday at Noon at Holy Family Catholic Church, Msgr. Gerald Calovini will celebrate. Burial will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
