Robert C. Doyle, 78, of Steubenville died at home on January 24, 2024, after a courageous battle against cancer. The son of Edward and Arvella Doyle, “Dr. Bob” was born in West Philadelphia, PA and earned his BA and MA from Penn State University and PhD from Bowling Green State University.
He served in the Vietnam War aboard the USS *Steinaker* from 1968-1969 and then as a naval intelligence liaison officer from 1970-1971. In 1994, he became a Fulbright Lecturer of American Studies in Münster, Germany and then taught in Strasbourg, France from 1995-1998. A prolific writer, Doyle published three books on military history and POW captivity. The Naval Institute Press will publish his fourth book in March entitled Men of God, Men of War, which tells the stories of chaplains who have served in America’s wars. He also appeared on the History Channel and radio documentary programs and was the historical consultant for Hart’s War and Return with Honor.
