Stella Mary Tsouris, 93, of Steubenville, was welcomed into the arms of the Lord and reunited with her beloved husband on December 18, 2021. She was born March 4,1928, in Brackenridge, PA to Damianos and Anna Kritikos. She returned to her homeland of Icaria, Greece as an infant, where she remained until the age of 12, when she and her mother were forced to seek refuge during World War II. While reflecting on her time as a refugee, at the Monastery of the Holy Cross, in then-Palestine, Stella would let listeners know that she is “Hatzis”— baptized in the River Jordan, an honor as an Orthodox Christian.
At the age of 17, she returned to the United States, staying with an aunt, in Youngstown, Ohio. The love of her life, Sarandos, followed her to the US and the two wed on October 25, 1947, in Cleveland.
Stella was an outstanding homemaker, known for her delicious baked goods, especially kourabiethes, which could always be found in the large container in her kitchen. A lighthearted woman, she was quick to offer conversation, an appreciative laugh, and something to eat, to anyone who entered her home.
In addition to assisting her husband in opening and running the Maryland Market, which was established in 1965, she was a past member of the Ladies Philotochos Society, as well as the Pan-Icarian Brotherhood of America.
She was preceded in death by her parents Damianos and Anna Kritikos, her brother Aristides, two infant sisters, and her husband Sarandos “Clark” Tsouris. She is survived by her children Louise Kronstein (Don), Nicolas (Vincetta), Anna Pappas (Thomas), grandchildren Stellanie Butcher (Brian), Christopher Kronstein, Krista Kronstein, Leah Wills (Kyle), Sarandos Tsouris, Vasilios Tsouris, Enza Anderson (David), Stellina Casto (Tyler); and great-grandsons Damianos Butcher, Simon Wills, and William Anderson.
