Teresa M. ”Toots” Jones, 85, of Steubenville, passed away on Wednesday, June 2, 2021, with family at her bedside at Valley Hospice after a long battle with chronic kidney disease, anemia, and diabetes.
She was born in Steubenville on February 13, 1936, the daughter of the late Frank and Victoria Augustine Petrola.
Teresa was a 1953 graduate of Steubenville Catholic Central after which she was employed at the Ohio Unemployment Office in downtown Steubenville. After several years working, she left her position to dedicate her time to raising a family. She was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in her early years and then became a member of Holy Rosary/Triumph of the Cross Church in more recent years.
She married her childhood sweetheart and love of her life, Edwin Jones, on July 10, 1956. Teresa is survived by two sons, Frank of Steubenville and Edwin (Wanda) Jones of Columbus and a daughter, Terri (Rob) Childress of Steubenville; three granddaughters, Jessica Jones and Hannah Jones of Columbus, and Angel Jones of Steubenville; and one great-grandson, Jameson Jones of Steubenville. She also leaves behind two sisters, Judy Crawford of Mingo Junction and Karen Aulet of Wintersville and one brother, Dr. Frank (Eileen) Petrola of Steubenville, as well as many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Teresa was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years Edwin, in 2013, and her loving grandson, Tyler Jones, in 2018. She will be remembered as a kind, wonderful woman and dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Over the years Teresa enjoyed square dancing and playing cards with friends and family. She also enjoyed family school activities and road trips to their sporting events. She loved her yearly trips to Myrtle Beach. She was a fantastic cook specializing in Italian dishes and a talented baker of Christmas cookies, a family favorite.
Calling hours are Sunday 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm at the Mosti Funeral Home Sunset Chapel, 4435 Sunset Blvd., Steubenville. There will be a vigil service Sunday at 4pm. A Funeral liturgy with Mass will be celebrated Monday at 10:00 am at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Father Thomas Nau, celebrant. Entombment will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
