Thomas "Tom" Mazzaferro Obituary

Thomas "Tom" Mazzaferro entered into his eternal life at Weirton Medical Center on Wednesday, June 29, 2022, at the age of 84.  Tom was born Jan. 27, 1938, in Steubenville.  He is the son of the late Thomas and Edna Mae Curry Mazzaferro.  He was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church in Mingo Jct. and the Knights of Columbus Council # 4361. Tom graduated from Steubenville High School in 1956. He attended Ohio University and then went on to serve in the U.S. Army from 1959-1962, where he held a top-secret clearance assisting NATO forces in guided missile training in Fort Bliss, TX.  He earned an Electronics degree at Texas Western.  In 1977, he attended the National Radio Institute where he received a FCC license in Complete Communications Electronics.  He later worked at Titanium Metals Corp. and retired after 35 years of service.  

Surviving Tom are his wife of 60 years, Phyllis M. Cutri Mazzaferro, whom he married on April 28, 1962; a daughter, Christine (Ryan) Merrick and three precious grandchildren, Justin, Ashley, and Zachary Merrick of Bolivar; one brother, Ron (Carol) Mazzaferro of Wintersville; one sister, Melany Wasko of Louisville; and a brother-in-law, Paul J. (Kathy) Cutri Jr. of Steubenville, as well as many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by one sister, Mary Ann Welling and one brother-in-law, Dennis Wasko.

Tom loved his wife deeply, enjoyed spending time with his family, watching Steubenville Big Red, Ohio State, and Pittsburgh Steelers football games, watching professional golf, Westerns movies, reading, learning new things and skills, and watching his grandchildren participate in athletics.  He enjoyed getting to coach his daughter, Christine, as an assistant track coach at Steubenville Catholic Central High School and was a head coach for the Steuben Striders Track Club for over ten years.  Tom led a very active  lifestyle  and was an avid bowler and golfer.  He enjoyed bowling in the Senior League with his wife and formed many friendships participating in his favorite pastimes.  

Family and friends will be received for calling hours on Friday from 3-6 pm at the Mosti Funeral Home, Sunset Chapel, 4435 Sunset Blvd, Steubenville. A funeral service will be held Saturday at 10 am at the funeral home, with Fr. James Dunfee officiating. Entombment will follow at Mt. Calvary Holy Spirit Mausoleum with full Military Honors.
