Virginia Sanchez Obituary

Virginia Concha Sanchez, 86, of Steubenville passed away peacefully at her home on July 14, 2021.

She was born in Kalamansig, Philippines, one of 13 children of the late Francisco and Encarnacion Escaler Concha.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, David S. Sanchez, M.D., whom she married on May 6, 1959; brothers Nelson, Francisco, Meinardo, Pacifico, Alejandro and Cayetano Concha; and sisters Carmen Concha-Lontok, Minda Concha-Falgui, and Anne Concha-Delacruz.

Virginia graduated from the University of the Philippines in 1959 with a bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy yet chose to dedicate her life to raising a family. She and David emigrated to the United States with their children in 1966 and lived in Cleveland, Ohio, where David completed his residency in Internal Medicine. They eventually moved to Steubenville and were blessed to put down roots and raise their family.

Virginia was an amazing cook. She loved to travel. She was a history buff and loved to tell her children about it. She loved to attend shows of her favorite musical performers and sporting events featuring her favorite professional golfers and teams. She was always game to try new things and go anywhere, as long as she had her adoring husband by her side.

Virginia is survived by son Enrico Sanchez, with whom she lived; daughter Lisa Sanchez (fiancé Kurt Kelley) of Cadiz, OH; son Victor (Lerma Maximo) Sanchez of Powell, OH; daughter Theresa (William III) Blake of Steubenville; daughter Attorney Cristina Sanchez (fiance Jason Getzel) of San Diego, CA; grandsons Michael David Taylor, Benjamin and Daniel Sanchez; granddaughter Stella Getzel; great-granddaughters Kallyn and Adalyne Taylor; sister Norma Concha-Juliano and brothers Reno and Trecerio “Boy” Concha, all in the Philippines; and many wonderful brothers- and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.

A private funeral mass was celebrated for Virginia at Holy Family Church, and she was buried next to her husband at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

The Sanchez family would like to sincerely thank all the friends and relatives who reached out during this difficult time. Your love and support will always be remembered.
