Walter J. "Bullets" Szydlowski

Walter J. “Bullets” Szydlowski, Sr. 98, of Steubenville died Friday, March 27, 2020 at Lancia Villa Vista. He was born February 19, 1922 in Steubenville. He is the son of the late Vincent and Antoinette Doroszczyk Szydlowski. Also preceding him in death are his wife Elizabeth Tarquinio; four brothers William “Shorty”, John, Stanley “Gus”, Alphonse “Epki”; sisters Stella Rufus and Helen Szydlowski.

Walter was a member of Triumph of the Cross Catholic Church and its former men’s club; was retired from Weirton Steel where he worked in the Blooming Mill for many years, also a member of the PNA, PAC, Weirton Steel 25 year club, American Legion Post 33 and the Knights of Columbus Council 472. Walter was also known to be an avid bowler. He also proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII and was a purple heart recipient.

Surviving are two sons Dr. Walter “Corky” Szydlowski, Jr. of Spring Hill, FL and David (Cindy) Szydlowski of Steubenville; two daughters Karen (Gary) Hanzel of Steubenville and Rose Marie “Rosie” Szydlowski of Spring Hill, FL; one sister Mary Pointer of GA; grandchildren Walter J. III, Jackie (Paul), Matthew (Amanda), Jennifer, David and Michael (Lauren); great grandchildren Liam, Elizabeth and Lillianna.

A funeral liturgy with Mass was held today at Holy Rosary Catholic Church and burial will take place in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
