William Recinella, Sr. Obituary

William E. Recinella Sr., 86, of Steubenville, passed away Tuesday, August 1, 2023 at Valley Hospice surrounded by family. He was born September 26, 1936 in Steubenville. He is the son of the late Nick and Mafalda Recinella who proceeded him in death, along with an infant sibling.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years Mary Lou (Gilday) Recinella; a sister Mary Kay Recinella of Florida; son Bill (Mary Faith) Recinella of Florida, daughter Cindy (Fred) Heatherington of Steubenville, son Kevin (Stacy) Recinella of Florida; Grandchildren, Kelley, Kyle, Kimberly, Korey, Darin and Mason; Great Grandchildren Addisyn, Leah, Will, Oaklyn, Braxton and, Daxton and Jolie.  

Bill was a 1954 graduate of Catholic Central and 1958 Duke University. Playing football for the Blue Devils for 4 years, including 2 Orange Bowl appearances.

He was a member of the Mingo Knights of Columbus, Iron Dukes of Duke University and was an Ohio Valley Football official for 25 years. He was inducted into both the Catholic Central Athletic Hall of Fame as well as the OSHAA Athletic Hall of Fame.

Bill retired after 40 years from Wheeling Pittsburgh Steel, Metallurgical Quality Control Department.   

Calling hours are Sunday 12 pm to 4 pm at the Mosti Funeral Home, Sunset Chapel, 4435 Sunset Blvd. A funeral liturgy with Mass will be celebrated Monday at 10 am at St. Peter Catholic Church. Entombment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
