John Brockway, 99, of Steubenville died Sunday, June 26, 2016, at Gables Care Center surrounded by his loving family. He was born March 2, 1917, in Port Leyden, NY. He is the son of the late Eugene E. and Edna P. Fellows Brockway. John is also preceded in death by his wife Lucille Roberts Brockway; seven brothers Irvin, Eugene, Charles, Harry, James, Clarence, Paul and an infant Arthur Leroy; four sisters Ada Blinn, Edna P. Smith, Mary Cox and Ethel George and stepmother, Carrie Burges Brockway.
He was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church and was retired from the Wheeling Pittsburgh Steel Armature Shop with 40 years of service.
John was a founding member, past president and vice president of the former Steubenville Marina Committee, also a member of the Weirton VFW, AARP, American Legion Post 33 and Knights of Pythias.
Surviving are two sons John A. (Carol) of Colerain, OH and Donald (Robin) of Steubenville; two grandchildren Bill (Amanda), Jamie Brockway and one great granddaughter Julianna and one on the way.
John served his country proudly in the United States Air Corps during World War II. He then retired from the U.S. Air Force 911th Troop Carrier Squadron Reserves.
John coached little league baseball in Steubenville for many years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, working outdoors and watching his favorite baseball team, the Cincinnati Reds.
He will be forever missed by his loving family.
Calling hours are Wednesday 2-4 and 6-8 pm at the Mosti Funeral Home, Sunset Chapel, 4435 Sunset Blvd., Steubenville. A Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be held Thursday 10 AM at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Fr. Tim Huffman will celebrate. Burial will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. A vigil service will be Wednesday at 2:00 pm.
