Mary Alice Schmitt

Schmitt, Mary Alice (nee McElwain), of Mingo Junction, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday July 6, 2016, surrounded by her family.
Born on July 3, 1925, in Steubenville, Mary was the daughter of the late Thomas and Catherine Gallagher McElwain. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Emil F. Schmitt; her infant great grandson, Landon William Cost; and her infant brother, Thomas James McElwain; and sisters, Kathleen Wallace, Helen Cosby, Margaret Tombow, and Lucille McElwain.
Mary retired from Trinity Health Systems East (Ohio Valley Hospital) as a soup/vegetable cook. She was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church.
She is survived by her five sons, Emil (Rita) Schmitt of New Cumberland WV, Thomas (Pamela) Schmitt of Hiram OH, Michael Schmitt of Mingo Junction, Francis (Regina) Schmitt of Fairfax Station VA, William (Diann) Schmitt of Mingo Junction; her three daughters, Patricia (Joseph) Dittmar of Westerville OH, Theresa (Ronald) Patterson of Conway SC, Marlana Schmitt of Annandale VA; by her 17 grandchildren; by her 22 great grandchildren; by her five great-great grandchildren; by her one brother, James (Adrienne) McElwain of Toronto OH; three sisters, Suzanne Mason of Weirton WV, Theresa (Alexander) MacIntosh of Peoria IL, and Judith (Craig) Andrews of New Cumberland WV.

Visitation will be Sunday 3-6 pm at the Mosti Funeral Home, Sunset Chapel, 4435 Sunset Blvd., Steubenville. Visitation will also be held at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Mingo Junction from 8:30a.m.to the funeral liturgy with Mass being celebrated at 9:30 a.m. on Monday .  Reverend James M. Dunfee will be the celebrant. Burial is in St. Paul's Cemetery, Weirton.
