Joseph M. Canella, 94, of Steubenville, died Saturday, November 5, 2016, at Valley Hospice.
He was born August 21, 1922, in Steubenville. He is a son of the late Natale and Maria Squatrita Canella.
Joseph is also preceded in death by his wife, Betty Thompson Canella; his son, Terry Canella; grandson, David Chuma, Jr.; two brothers, Sarvey and John Canella; two sisters, Eileen Tamburro and Rose Butto and son-in-law, David Chuma, Sr.
Joe was a member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church. He was the retired owner and operator of the former Canella Produce.
Surviving are his daughter, Betty Chuma, of Mingo Junction; one brother, Phillip Canella of Mingo Junction; one sister, Pauline Macre of Steubenville; two grandchildren, Michelle (Ty) Smith, and Melissa (Scott) Sandusky; four great-grandchildren, Anthony and Mikhalia Smith and Nico and Angelo Sandusky and daughter-in-law, Gale Cochran.
Joseph was a member of American Legion Argonne Post 33, K of C Council #472 and served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II.
