Mitchell E. Humienny, 55, of Steubenville, died Monday, October 9, 2017 at his home. He was born April 4, 1962 in Steubenville. He is the 9th of 10 children to the late John and Wanda MacGregor Humienny.
Mitchell began working for his father's construction company at a very young age. He was a graduate of Catholic Central High School class of 1980, and went on to study at Youngstown State and Ohio State University. Mitchell served his country in the United States Army where he was a military policeman for two years. He then went on to serve his local community as a Steubenville Firefighter; he retired after serving for over 25 years. On February 20, 2003 Mitchell and two other firefighters were recognized by the city for saving the life of a person who was trapped by a fire on the second floor of their home.
The greatest joys of Mitchell's life were his wife and children who he loved with everything he had. He had an incredible sense of civil duty, a witty sense of humor, and was always willing to lend a helping hand. He was a member of Triumph of the Cross Parish, the Polish Athletic Club and also loved to golf, bowl, and work daily crossword puzzles.
Surviving are his wife, Sharon Fletcher Humienny, whom he married June 27, 1987; one son Jason (Caitlin) Humienny of Philadelphia; one daughter Stephanie Humienny of Follansbee; five brothers Josh (Candy) Humienny, Richard (Jane) Humienny, James (Dianne) Humienny, Gregory (Joan) Humienny and Christopher (Patty) Humienny all of Steubenville; four sisters Cecelia Humienny of Las Vegas, Jeanne (David) Clarke of Strongsville, OH, Rita (Mark) Newcomer of Findlay, OH and Kathleen (James) Coppa of South Bend, IN; one brother-in-law David (Joanna) Fletcher; two sister-in-laws Susan (Mike) Bradley and Cindy (Wesley) Fletcher; ten nieces, twelve nephews and several great nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be Friday from 2 pm until time of services at 5:30 pm at the Mosti Funeral Home, Sunset Chapel, 4435 Sunset Blvd., Steubenville. Fr. Tom Nau will officiate the service. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
